Roosevelt Chapman (born in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York) was an American college basketball player for the University of Dayton from 1980-1984. He is also known by his nicknames Velvet, Velvet Man, and Rosey.
Chapman is best known for leading the Flyers to the West Regional final game of the 1984 NCAA tournament, losing to eventual champion Georgetown, despite having been seeded 10th.[1] The team's performance that year earned it the rank of #7 on Hall of Fame Magazine's list of "Cinderella Stories".[2]
Chapman is the all-time leading scorer at the University of Dayton and also for being on the latter's basketball Hall of Fame.[3]
